Pioneers Announce Returning Players
The Pioneers are proud to announce two members of last years playoff qualifying team have returned for another summer at Dunn Field as pitcher Chase Austin and catcher Trevor Henneman with return to a Pioneers uniform for 2019.
Austin is a sophomore at Lock Haven University from Tioga, PA. Coming in as a relief pitcher for the last two seasons for the Pios, Chase pitched in 13 games for 23 innings during the 2018 campaign. Most notably a perfect inning in a July 13thouting against Jamestown in which he struck out one and didn’t allow a hit or base on balls. Austin’s 6’6 frame makes him intimidating on the mound and in his third year he will bring a veteran presence to a younger Pios team.
Henneman is a freshman out of Canisius College from Corning, NY. During his high school career, he had a .557 batting average, eight homers, and 36 RBI’s in his senior year. This season he is hitting .306 in 12 games with Canisius including a home run and two stolen bases. His second year in a Pioneers uniform will see him as a veteran presence on the team having played in 30 games as well as 1 playoff game last season. In the lone playoff game last year Trevor was responsible for driving in 2 of Elmira’s 5 runs.
“Really happy to have Chase back this summer. He is an invaluable part of a pitching staff as he takes the ball whenever need.” Coach Matt Burch said. "Trevor Henneman will be an MVP candidate in the PGCBL this summer. He is off to a good collegiate career and the potential to be a professional player is evident."
