Elmira Pioneers Announce Massachusetts Additions
The Pioneers are proud to announce they have signed several players from Massachusetts who will be suiting up for the Pioneers this season. The Pioneers are very happy to welcome from Northern Essex Community College Right Handed Pitcher Alex Sweeney and Left Handed Pitcher William Stickney, from Hopedale High School Utility player Alex Luccini, and from Duxbury High School Right Handed Pitcher Drew Haight both of whom are committed to UMASS-Lowell.
Sweeney is a 6’1 170 pound freshman right handed pitcher from Raymond, NH. Alex has appeared in 8 games this season and holds a 3-1 record in 22.2 inning pitched having struck out 33. Sweeney has a high follow ranking from Perfect Game baseball and in NH has been ranked top 10 in Right Handed pitchers. Alex has a fastball that gets up over 85 miles per hour and before last season was made a preseason all American by perfect game.
Stickney is a 6’1 185 pound freshman left handed pitcher from Malden, MA. William has been somewhat limited through only one game this season in relief throwing three innings and striking out two. In Stickney’s three innings he has allowed zero runs. As a left handed pitcher Stickney provides a matchup challenge and has been said to be an up and coming prospect by Newportbury News.
Luccini is a 6’3 180 pound senior utility player from Hopedale, MA. Alex has been recruited and committed to UMASS-Lowell next season. Luccini is a Northeast Region preseason All American this season and has been accomplished throughout his high school record. Alex has been a three time All Tournament team as well as a three time Champion in the last two seasons.
Haight is a 5’11 200 pound senior right handed pitcher from Duxbury, MA. Drew has been recruited and committed to UMASS-Lowell next season. Haight is also a Northeast Region preseason All American this season. Drew has a fastball that hits 84 miles per hour and last season was a member of the All Tournament team.
“We have had a lot of success with players from Northern Essex and believe we are getting two quality pitchers from that school. In a year like this it is always important to look towards the future as well and picking up two highly touted prospects right out of high school will allow them to develop and give us more depth to our staff in a long season.” Coach Matt Burch said.
